Bah! Two of my favorite songs right now are in E — E – A – B (or EBEBABE or something). B! I hate B. Even on a tiny necked steel string, I hate B. B is for BAH! On the upside, it’s an easy transposition to G (without being too much of a stretch to still be within my singing range — G may actually be in a slightly better key for me in most cases, these days, anyway), but it means I can’t just play along with the album, which is… fun. I haven’t done it in a long time but, I ripped something to my laptop so I could figure out some chords & have been having a blast this evening. Now I need to type out the lyrics so I can sing along without the album. Also, with the little girls.

And then there’s the one that I can’t figure out what it’s actually in or how I would go about playing it (it’s hella fun to sing along with), but that’s where having Jazzy Jazzmaster A as brother comes in handy. Dude is a walking, talking, music-theory compendium. He’s decided that the zillions of instruments he already plays aren’t enough. Thursday he starts piano classes. Sounds like he’s got some good books lately too, one on voice leading for guitarists. He’s actually indicated an interest in learning to sing as well. If you’ve ever been fortunate to hear his rendition of the Doors “Touch Me”, you’ll know he can sing perfectly well. It’s when he does something like the Stooges “Search & Destroy”, just him & his acoustic guitar, that the self-conscious earnestness seeps in. Still singing fine, but not as confidently. He said today that we should get together & just noodle around with music some day soon anyway. This song sounds like a faboo excuse to me. Good times!

Clearly I need to rip more music to the laptop so I can mess around quietly after everyone is in bed… :) Which is actually somewhat hard as I don’t believe music is meant to be played quietly. But anyway. I gotta get some classical in here before I collapse entirely. I didn’t mean to spend the last 1.5 hours playing, but I appear to have gotten caught up in it. Another half hour & then sleep.
