Good Day

Today was my mommy’s birthday. We (my entire little family & my brother & his new bride & my dad) took her to a classical guitar concert at the Frye, then retired to my brother’s place for dinner, cake & presents. This is not the first time we’ve taken M1 out to a cultural event. She was very good, aside from wearing her “noisy” coat & the occasional scritch of her colored pencils as she colored. To me, this is acceptable for a kid her age. M2 was more of a crapshoot. All things considered, she did very, very, very good for an inquisitive, energetic four year old. About half way through during a clapping phase, she said, “I have to go potty!” Even though she’d been potty a bunch right before we left. At the point of the last set of songs, during the clapping again, she said she had to go potty. That was pretty much the end of the concert for me as once you go out, you really can’t come back in as the doors are locked from the outside (can get out, but not back in). Also, incredibly rude to come back in. I’m fine with that. So I missed some, but what I saw was really good & I was happy to get out & at least see some. I think just A & I are going to go out to the next one in April though. My brother turned around a few times to check on them, and was impressed at how good they were being & that they seemed really into it & were acting age appropriately good. I think the dude half of the obviously “hip” childless couple next to us was stressed out by the fact that they were there though. Whatever. They were very good, it was a free, open to the public concert with the intent to do a little education about classical guitar & music & if all you’re doing is educating the old & uptight, well… fuck the old & uptight. Music is for everyone including the children. Maybe I’ll at least take M1 to the one in April… I think that might be too soon to take M2 back, but it’s good for her to get out and start seeing things too. Especially since she does really love the music & stuff. We had a good time walking around and looking at the paintings too.

We had a good time at A’s too. It was a good day. I wanted to come away inspired to like the two pieces I hate, but I’m not. I still hate them. But now I’m inspired to get through them so I can get on to other pieces at least.
