11 FebThe Rest of the Story

Dusty Strings being too far away to venture for just some bridge pins, I mustered all my nerve and ventured forth to the local Guitar Center. Y’know — they could make a ridiculous amount of money off me but every fiber in my body was saying, “Must! Leave! Now! waitgetpins! Must Leave Now! NOW!” The discordant cacaphony was crazy making. As were the milling teenage boys. That said, I grudgingly admit that the young man (I can call him a young man because by the standards of that place I am an old, old, old lady) who helped me did so politely and attentively. Admittedly, I wasn’t asking anything complex, though of course they didn’t have any black with white dot plastic bridge pins. I let the kid upgrade me to ebony pins probably doubling or tripling the cost, but I am old & can afford something that will hold up a little better than plastic, and — AND — for the first time in two decades, next time I change my guitar strings (brace yourselves) all my pins will match! I should get a picture of them all mismatched just for posterity. Of course, when, inevitably, something happens to the ebony ones, I’ll have back ups & then we’ll be back to mismatching, but my rate of pin destruction has slowed substantially.

Eventually I need to get the saddle switched out for a new one — this one has seen better days & is cracking, ever so slightly at the G. I have time, but it’s slowly getting worse & at some point I’ll need to take care of it. Huh. I wonder if it’s glued in… My brother’s isn’t, but it’s anyone’s guess on mine… On the upside, I know multiple people well connected with good local luthiers.

In other news? Statement of the obvious — we’ll not be getting a dog any time soon. Went & picked M2 up from the neighbors with the puppies. So cute. So irresistible… I pet one for as long as it took to say, “Oh, you’re a sweet one!” Results? My hands still itch 2.5 hours later (despite washing within ten minutes), and my nose dripped & itched for a half hour. Too bad, so sad. We knew this, but every now & again I have hopes that in an interim that particular allergy has disappeared… but nooooooo.

Ok. Bedtime for sleepy girls.
