So yesterday I got the dreaded phone call from the very nice school nurse saying M1 had an earache. Nice nurse put M1 on the phone & she started crying. I told her I’d be there as soon as I could. I packed everything up & went off to pick her up.
When I showed up, her poor little face was so flushed, but no temp. She started crying so I hugged her, we went and signed out and she leaned on me all the way out to the car in misery. I’m afraid the poor girl has my ears. If I get anything in my sinuses, it goes straight to my ears & stays there. And because 99.9% of the time it’s viral, there’s not much that can be done. Benadryl was what the doc gave me when I was little & it always seemed to help but the M’s won’t take medicine. I’ve gotten them to the point where I can get them to take homeopathics (which, btw, I don’t really believe in, but placebo seems to work better than nothing at all & at least it’s not an across the board objection to all “medicine”). Maybe next year I can send P off to buy “the sugar pills” and have him come back with ‘oh gosh, they changed them, they’re still little, but you can’t chew them anymore…’ They’ll see right through us won’t they? Crap.
So anyway, miserable little girl, it all kind of let up & she was doing pretty good before bed, then she woke up at 11 (in the middle of my bath, interrupting my evening reading of Anthony Bourdain, maude forbid) because her other ear hurt & was then up & very unhappy until 1. And as Paul noted when he got up at 6 she was up. Actually, she tried to get up at five, but I said hell no, gave her another thing of the homeopathics & said if she was still up at six she could get up. I also told both girls they were getting naps today. Mostly because *I* will need one. And maybe P too.
