Exhausted
Is it Friday yet? It’s good. Overwhelming. Good. You know that small corporation(?) in Monty Python that becomes pirates & the building sails through & the execs go crashing through windows of other corporations/buildings they take over? For some reason, that’s the impression I get of this company — less the hostile takeover angle (because they’re hot on ethics & social community stuff) than the sense of humor and levity. Seriously. You do not want to get on the bad side of our three helpdesk guys because they are *heavily* armed with waterguns & when I’ve seen any one of them outside their little workspace (where the arsenal is kept), they are always armed. One of the partners is relentlessly photoshopped into all kinds of totally inappropriate (and yet worksafe) pictures. There is a big deal made of the fact that “the south tower” (the one I’m in) has an espresso machine (I think the big deal in “the north tower” is that they have a George Foreman grill). I’m not sure why this is such a big deal since there’s a coffee shop downstairs near the fireplace, fountain, & small card shop. There is an email list called “Flaming Liberal Commie” and one called “Debate This Conservative” (I think those are right). Um. The work itself is not substantially different from what I was doing, but I think it will be more varied, which is a good thing. The only thing I don’t totally love are the hours, and mostly that’s just because the commute is so goddamn awful. I love *getting* hours, and I’m happy while I’m there, though it’s hard to work that late away from my little family. Unfortunately, even working two hours in the morning from home isn’t going to make that much of a difference in the commute. But that’s a ways away to worry about yet for a bit. Gotta establish myself as a great worker, a dedicated worker, and a reliable & trustworthy worker first. Sometimes I’m totally intimidated that I got a job here because the bar is set so high, but at the same time, I love, love, love that it’s set so high.
In other news, tonight was M1’s K-2 Concert. They were so freaking cute. So. Freaking. CUTE. And she had a special part during her class’s song — she got to be up front with a few other kids & she played the chime tree. Oh, the cuteness.
