08 JanCommunity, Help, Kids, Stuff

So today a lot of discussion was had in our house in regards to this really faboo post http://www.livejournal.com/users/anarqueso/135532.html. It was a really interesting discussion on a lot of different levels. One being the discussion of community & what it means. One being the discussion of the process of asking (community) for help. One, that wasn’t discussed in the original post and was kind of a tangental notation off the discussion that took place but that rings really true to me about the perception by the larger culture of kids as inconveniences & “sources of private satisfaction rather than as functioning parts of a larger group,” the lack of generational integration, & feeling like it’s necessary to parent with these things in mind.

I have suddenly run out of steam even trying to think of how to appropriately synopsize our discussion beyond noting that was the starting point. But there it is.

Watched Secretary again this weekend. Such a lovely movie.

I’m going to go get some water, I’m *so* thirsty. Then I’m going to sit down & finish watching the Muppets in Oz (I can summarize that — big suck, but the prawn character is in it & he occasionally gets some really funny lines in. Beyond that? Oh, the horror!) & spin. I’m not so impressed with the wool I’m working with right now. There are a lot of neps in it. It would have been a good one to comb, if I had combs, or at least card down with another type of fiber… Oh well. I’ve got about two? ounces left of it & then I can start in on the stuff I got for Xmas. :) Not to mention setting & starting to knit slippers out of the other stuff. And keep working on the other knitting project that I’m working on…
