11 DecBusy Day

P went out this morning and did the grocery shopping, I bundled up The Girls & ran off to find a birthday present from M1&2 for him. Like herding cats. M1 immediately found the kid’s section of the store we went to (the Mariner’s store) & kept asking if she could get this shirt or that shirt or this that or the other thing. M2 immediately found the trucks, cars, & balls. Eventually I got the cats kids herded in the right direction & M1 found exactly what she wanted. M2 wouldn’t put down the hotwheels sized Mariner hummer, so I thought in interest of getting out of the store with the least ruckus possible that I’d just buy it for her. Of course, M1 had to have something too, and then I decided to go with the bottle of scotch I bought my fella that he needed a Mariner’s shot glass. Besides which, by the time I got The Girls out of the mall, I thought I might need a shot… I briefly entertained the thought of trying to get a little Xmas shopping done, but shortly gave up on that. I also briefly entertained the thought of just getting the Xmas cards done, walked into the mall Hallmark shop, saw the narrow aisles & glass menageries, & turned around and walked out again. But not before The Girls had managed to touch three or four things. No harm, no foul. We went home.

Then I started cleaning up so that we could find a place for the tree. It was a fearsome task. Not so much in the lack of day-to-day cleaning, but you know, when you don’t move the rug most of the year, stuff accumulates under it. And then I realized that I needed the space that the toy box was taking up… and oh, it had overflowed & then some. I threw out a bag of stuff, and got another bag of donations, and another bag of puzzles/pieces to sort through some other time. After the fearsome cleaning came the fearsome rearranging involving further cleaning. This year we have charris’s old couch — it’s much huger than the loveseat we used to have & we love it to death, but damn, it’s huge. It’ll work out how we’ve got it… it’s just for a few weeks anyway… I ended up having to prop my wheel on top of my cedar chest, but I might be able to just slide it between the tree & chest maybe. After all that work, I went into the bathroom and it felt roomy for the first time ever in there… our living room feels crowded. But I’m adjusting. During all this M1 was supposed to be cleaning her room (M2’s room too, but most of M2’s mess is out in the living room). It didn’t happen until Gramma & I did it “with” her. Very annoying. Especially since she pestered me into letting her go across the street to play with her friend and it wasn’t until after she was gone that I went in to put M2 down for a nap & found the room an even worse mess than when we began. But… don’t tell her, but I didn’t mind *so* much because she adores her little friend across the street & her little friend is going to Mexico to see Mommy’s side of the family for Xmas for two. whole. weeks starting next Friday or maybe it’s Saturday. So this was likely the last time she’d see her until after Xmas. Actually I did really mind, but I can let it slide for now…

I got a quick shower in, seems to me there was other cleaning and furniture tweaking I did once I got out. Eventually my parents showed up & we… well, Gramma & I cleaned M1’s room while Grampa & Dad fought off sleep (or didn’t) by reading to M2. Then we went and got the tree. No noble firs until tomorrow. We’ve got a douglas fir this year. It’s ok. I prefer noble by a long shot, but this is a decent tree with a nice shape. A bit on the short side, but that just means we’ll be able to actually get the angel on the top of it without having to bring the big ladder in… maybe. We didn’t wait for my brother & his sweetie, just left the door open & told them the beer was in the fridge. Tree in, we went out for dinner at a tasty little Italianish place a bit up the road. It was a nice dinner, even if I didn’t get tiramisu because it was frozen. Hrmf. Note to self — if it’s frozen, that’s probably not a good sign…

We came back, opened presents, my parents went on their way, my brother & sweetie stayed for some scotch, then they left, I put the girls to bed & now here I am. I think I’m getting sleepy & I think I should probably take that as my cue to head off to bed. Or at least into a nice hot bath to warm my nose & bones…
