Cookie! Cookie! Cookie! Starts With C!

After M1 finished her homework tonight, she said she wanted to do something else with her family. Like make muffins or something. When I was her age (and as long as my mom could find the orange cake mix), every year for halloween she made these little orange cookies. They were so good. They no longer make the cake mix that she used, and I don’t have the recipe anyway (though I could have called her up had we been able to find the cake mix, I suppose…) so off we went, using my special librarian-foo to find an orange cookie recipe.

Whoohoo! We found one! I started beating the egg, told M1 to bring me the butter which she did. Then I told her to get the orange juice & she rolled her eyes at me. I said, well, it only calls for a quarter cup of OJ, once we’re done zesting the orange, we can squeeze that much out of the orange. P pipes up, “We don’t have any oranges!” Some discussion later, he volunteers to run up to the store to get OJ & an orange so we can have orange cookies. We mix it all up, there’s some excitement as M2 grabs a handful of granulated sugar that we’re dredging the cookies in, and finally the first batch is done. They turned out very nicely indeed. Not my mama’s, but tasty tasty tasty none-the-less. M2 decided she needed a second cookie, I made her split it with M1. Here’s to librarian-foo put to good use!
