Idioms
We’re adding the Microsoft Computer Dictionary to our taxonomies. I didn’t realize it had all of the stupid shorthand IM stuff in it. I am learning more about IM speak than I ever *ever* wanted to know. Lucky me. I get to define it too.
LOL becomes “laughing out loud: Jargon or popular language used in e-mail correspondence and on the Internet expressing appreciation of humor.”
It’s really hard to give any dignity to any of these terms… in that way, it’s actually kind of fun to see how dry a definition you can come up with.
FYA becomes “for your amusement: Jargon or popular language used in e-mail correspondence and on the Internet to indicate humorous content follows.”
I know — what happens to the acronym? Don’t worry — it becomes an “entry term” and is searchable, bringing back the definitions listed.
TTFN, I gotta go define “GD&RVVF — grinning, ducking, and running, very, very fast”, if not immediately then in the very near future. god help me, I have over 100 to go before I get to go back to defining terms like transitive trust, UCSD p-system, & zero suppression. Eek. I see I’ll still have to deal with YMMV & YHBW, etc down near the bottom… < weeping >.

edit: “FTR”, “GD&RVVF” has been defined as Jargon or popular language used in e-mail correspondence and on the Internet to indicate provocative humor.
