The Verdicts
Yes. There’s more than one tonight.
First things first — the verdict on the lime sorbet? To. Die. For. I’m going to be making this all freaking summer long because it is beautiful.
The content management course? ALL SYSTEMS GOOOOOOOOO!!! (That’s go, not goo). Whooohoooo! Which means next year looks something like this:
Summer (last two of my “core” required courses):
- LIS 560 Instructional and Training Strategies for Information Professionals
Develops knowledge and skills in instruction and training functions for library and information settings. Issues and strategies for learning and teaching. Design, development, and evaluation of information and technology literacy programs. Addresses the needs of users when designing and delivering instruction. - LIS 580 Management for Information Organizations
Introduction to internal and external management issues and practices in information organizations. Internal issues include organizational behavior, organizational theory, personnel, budgeting, planning. External issues include organizational environments, politics, marketing, strategic planning, funding sources. (This one is being taught full content/half the time, Maude help me, by my advisor, the always delightful & faboo Nancy Gershenfeld).
Fall:
- LIS 568 Information Literacy for Teaching and Learning
Theories, process, and practical applications of information literacy. Development of information literacy programs for libraries, community agencies, business, education or other information settings. Intrinsic themes include the integral relationship between technology and information literacy, and continual evaluation. - LIS 549 Content Management Methods: part 1
The aim of this series of classes is to help you become a player in the CM discipline. By player I mean someone who would be trusted to lead some or all of a CM initiative.
Winter: A little torn on this one there are a few potential options (I won’t take more than two a quarter way to much $$$…
- LIS 549 Content Management Methods: part 2
- LIS 587 Library Technology Systems
Developing criteria for selection and design of information technology systems for libraries and information centers. Applying criteria in evaluation of hardware and software. Examining related management challenges, such as vendor relations, financing options, personnel requirements, and design of auxiliary activities. - LIS 522 Collection Development
Access to materials as context for development and management of library collections in academic, public, school libraries. Community analysis, library mission; collection development policies, criteria, levels, responsibilities; aids to selection; collection evaluation, use studies; controversial materials.
Spring: Why does the cup floweth over my last quarter? Ho. Ly. Cow. Same as before, undecided options, but here’s what I need to consider anyway…
- LIS 549 Content Management Methods: part 3
(this is where we get into the really technical stuff that I’m really intimidated by. And it has stiff competition…) - LIS 521 Principles of Information Services
Analysis of the information mediation process, including determination and analysis of information needs; searching for, evaluation, and presentation of appropriate results; modalities for delivery of services; and current and future techniques [AKA Ref 101]. - LIS 526 Government Publications
Government publications of the United States and foreign countries, their acquisition, organization, and use.
Oh dang! I though LIS 537 (Construction of Indexing Languages: Exploration of the design, construction, evaluation, and maintenance of controlled indexing languages, including studies of how users are integrated into the design process. Through completion of thesaurus construction project, prepares students to design index languages, plan and implement a design project, and evaluate indexing languages) was in there spring quarter too! That would have been directly immediately applicable to work. Poo. Poo-poo!
Anyway. Lime sorbet is really good.
